Responsible global supply chain of minerals from conflict-affected and high risk areas
Umicore is a global materials technology and recycling group that purchases and recycles minerals and metals for use in a wide variety of products and technologies.
Umicore is committed to conducting its business, through its employees, directors, officers and agents, in compliance with applicable laws and overall in an honest and ethical manner. Umicore believes that a commitment to honesty, ethics and integrity is an essential foundation that builds trust with customers, business partners, shareholders and the communities in which it operates.
As part of the Umicore Way, Umicore has accordingly adopted a set of policies and charters to ensure its activities are conducted in line with the above principles. These include the Umicore Code of Conduct, Human Rights Policy and Global Sustainable Sourcing Policy.
In some regions of the world, exploitation of natural resources is used to fund conflict or are can be associated with violations of human rights. In order to prevent materials that are tainted in this way from entering its supply chain, Umicore has adopted a policy on “Responsible global supply chain of minerals from conflict-affected and high risk areas.” In the area of precious metals, this policy is complemented with specific certification programmes. Umicore is certified as Responsible Gold smelter by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and by the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC). In the area of cobalt sourcing, Umicore has implemented a pioneering Sustainable Procurement Framework for Cobalt and is the first to obtain external validation for its approach in this area.
