Umicore and Ignitis Renewables enter into long-term PPA to supply renewable electricity to Umicore’s EV battery materials plant in Poland
Umicore has entered into a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Ignitis Renewables to supply Umicore’s cathode active materials production plant for electric vehicles (EV) in Nysa, Poland, with renewable electricity, covering a substantial part of its electricity consumption needs.
Ignitis Renewables will provide the renewable electricity from its onshore Silesia II Wind Farm, which is under construction in southwestern Poland and will have a total capacity of 137 MW. The windfarm is expected to be commissioned by the second half of 2024. The contract runs from the start of 2025 until the end of 2034.

This second PPA for Nysa complements an earlier long-term PPA that Umicore signed with ENGIE for the same plant and follows recent PPAs that Umicore has announced for its European facilities. Umicore’s Nysa plant is Europe’s first and still only cathode active materials facility for electric vehicles and has been using renewable electricity only for its production, right from the start of operations last year.

Umicore a conclu un contrat d'achat d'électricité (PPA) de 10 ans avec Ignitis Renewables pour approvisionner en électricité renouvelable l'usine de production de matériaux cathodiques actifs pour véhicules électriques (EV) d'Umicore à Nysa, en Pologne, permettant de couvrir une partie substantielle de ses besoins en consommation d'électricité.
Ignitis Renewables fournira l'électricité renouvelable à partir de son parc éolien terrestre Silesia II, qui est en cours de construction dans le sud-ouest de la Pologne et aura une capacité totale de 137 MW. Le parc éolien devrait être mis en service au cours du second semestre 2024. Le contrat s'étend de début 2025 à fin 2034.

Ce deuxième PPA pour Nysa complète un précédent PPA à long terme qu'Umicore a signé avec ENGIE pour la même usine et fait suite aux récents PPA qu'Umicore a annoncé pour ses installations européennes. L'usine d'Umicore à Nysa est la première et toujours l’unique usine européenne de matériaux actifs pour cathodes de véhicules électriques et n'utilise que de l'électricité renouvelable pour sa production, depuis le début de ses activités l'année dernière.

Umicore heeft een 10-jarige stroomafnameovereenkomst (PPA) gesloten met Ignitis Renewables om Umicore's fabriek voor de productie van actieve kathodematerialen voor elektrische voertuigen (EV) in Nysa, Polen te voorzien van hernieuwbare elektriciteit. De PPA voorziet een aanzienlijk deel van de elektriciteitsbehoefte van de batterijmaterialenfabriek.
Ignitis Renewables zal de hernieuwbare elektriciteit leveren vanuit haar onshore Silesia II windpark, dat in aanbouw is in het zuidwesten van Polen en een totale capaciteit van 137 MW zal hebben. Het windpark zal naar verwachting in de tweede helft van 2024 in gebruik worden genomen. Het contract loopt van begin 2025 tot eind 2034.

Deze tweede PPA voor Nysa vult een eerdere langetermijn-PPA aan die Umicore ondertekende met ENGIE voor dezelfde fabriek en volgt op recente PPA's die Umicore aankondigde voor haar Europese vestigingen. De fabriek van Umicore in Nysa is nog steeds Europa's eerste en enige fabriek die kathode-actieve materialen voor elektrische voertuigen vervaardigt en gebruikt sinds het begin van haar operationele activiteiten vorig jaar uitsluitend hernieuwbare elektriciteit voor haar productie.
"Door deze samenwerking in het kader van de PPA zijn we trots Umicore te kunnen ondersteunen in haar productie van batterijmaterialen voor elektrische voertuigen in Nysa door middel van hernieuwbare elektriciteit en hopen we te blijven bijdragen aan haar weg naar een netto nuluitstoot van broeikasgassen.
