There’s more to life than work

According to a study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), people between the ages of 18 and 65 spend about 1,800 hours a year at work. As the advantages are numerous , finding the right work-life balance is important not only to employees, but also to their employer. At Umicore, we support our employees to find a good balance.

Wellbeing of employees translates into improved efficiency, commitment, motivation and wellness. It improves the atmosphere at work, which in turn has a positive effect on the relationships between colleagues. If wellbeing is maintained, people realize their potential, cope better with stress, increase their mental resilience and feel satisfied in life.

In this article you will find a snapshot of how our Polish teams work together on their mental and physical health in a fun way. They participate in different sports activities and we are proud of what they achieve!

Running for a good cause in Nowa Ruda

There are many running fans among Umicore Nowa Ruda employees. Running has a positive impact on our physical and mental health, which inspired us to start our own running group. We run as a team and do something good for others at the same time. Last year we took part in the Poland Business Run charity event. This is the largest charity business run to support people with disabilities. We also took part in the Street Run in Nowa Ruda. Umicore also funded a mountain bike, the main prize for the winner.

We are also proud when our employees achieve personal running successes. Karolina Barczak from the Finance Department and Michał Malczewski from the Production Department ran 21 km during the 21st TOYOTA Half Marathon Wałbrzych.

The sky is the limit

We watch in awe as Umicore employees take on amazing challenges and achieve their goals. Especially if they are driven by passion and full of perseverance. Jacek Szafran, who works as a lab technician in Nowa Ruda, did something exceptional on 15th June 2021: he climbed Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. Hats off to him!

Izabela Kubiak from the Quality Department may also boast of her mountain exploits. On 13th june 2021 she took part in the Triple Crown expedition in Poland.  She conquered the three highest peaks of the Wałbrzyskie, Kamienne and Sowie Mountains. The whole route is over 80kms long.

Bike rally in Nysa

There are also many sports lovers at Umicore in Nysa, so we decided to organize the first Bicycle Rally for our Nysa employees. The 36ksm route led through the picturesque environment of Nysa, making the rally not only a sporting challenge, but also a great way to unwind.

Our six employees from the quality, the purchasing and EHS departments had lots of fun!

Table tennis matches

Spring was full of sports emotions at Umicore Nysa. All thanks to an exceptional event – the first Table Tennis Tournament at the new plant.

32 players from Poland and abroad participated in the competition. They played a total of 32 exciting matches, which resulted in Daniel, Łukasz and Maciej taking the podium.

As a socially responsible company, we care about the wellbeing of our employees. We want to further improve the wellbeing of our employees with such initiatives and increase team spirit. After all, there’s more to life than work!
