Celebrating 20 years of MESC

Umicore has built a broad network of open innovation partnerships with leading academic partners and start-ups. One such collaboration is the one with MESC (Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion), an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master program aiming to train future professionals for emerging energy sector challenges. Through this Joint Master Program, Umicore has contributed to scholarships, has hosted more than 50 master theses, and offered career opportunities for its graduates.

This year MESC marked its 20th anniversary in Amiens, France, and as a supportive partner, Umicore had the honor to share its journey and the impact of this long-standing relationship. Umicore highlighted the opportunities provided by this partnership and the importance of such collaborations to drive progress and innovation. Additionally, back in 2014, MESC developed into MESC+, providing a highly interdisciplinary curriculum, combining scientific and technological knowledge of electrochemical energy storage and conversion at multiple levels, from materials to devices, including the critical role of advanced materials.

The MESC-Umicore partnership has proven to be an important collaboration that bridges academia and industry. Over the past two decades, this alliance has facilitated numerous research projects, internships, and career opportunities for students and professionals alike.

As we celebrate 20 years of MESC and collaboration with MESC+, we look forward to continuing the partnership through the newly EU appointed i-MESC program.
