Can you describe your role at Umicore?

As a scientist at Umicore, I am specialized in data science and applied mathematics. My role involves working on projects related to advancing Umicore's vision of a circular economy. I collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds within R&D and within Umicore’s business units to tackle current challenges and drive innovation.

What do you like about your job?

I particularly enjoy the opportunity for continuous learning and development that my job offers. Each project presents unique challenges that require me to expand my knowledge and skills. Additionally, collaborating with experts from various fields and contributing to meaningful projects aligned with my passion for sustainability and innovation are aspects of my job that I truly appreciate.

What do you look forward to when you leave for work in the morning?

When I set off to work in the morning, I look forward to diving into new challenges, collaborating with my colleagues, and making meaningful contributions to Umicore's mission. The prospect of learning something new and immediately applying it to make a positive impact drives my motivation and excitement for the day ahead.

What has been the highlight of your time at Umicore so far?

The highlight of my time at Umicore so far was the opportunity to find innovative solutions for challenging problems. The support of the management to persevere when solutions weren’t obvious allowed me to grow a lot technically. Being able to often share my knowledge and experience with others is also very satisfying.

Any advice for new joiners?

For newcomers joining Umicore, I would advise embracing the learning opportunities available and actively seeking out collaboration with colleagues from different backgrounds. Don't be afraid to ask questions, take on challenges, and continuously strive to improve yourself. Also, take advantage of the various training programs and resources offered by Umicore to support your professional and personal development.
