What you will be doing
This position has the responsibility for leading and coordinating, in alignment with the regional and functional Umicore tax leaders, all Umicore tax compliance, reporting, audit, planning, and business partnership matters, and the agreed Ionway tax matters, in Poland.
Responsibilities:
- A pro-active and seamless partnership with the global functional tax teams, on a basis of open collaboration among equals. The core global functional teams include the Income Tax Compliance and Reporting team, the Indirect Tax team, and the Transfer Pricing team. This role shall contribute to the success of the global teams and their process integrity and ensure that all material tax matters in Poland are pursued (and visibility raised for them) on a timely basis. The incumbent shall contribute to the roll-out of best-practice global processes. He/she shall contribute to the regular management of the IFRIC23 process and the documentation of deferred tax assets.
- She/he shall initiate and maintain tax value creation actions in Poland, including tax-effective financing, tax incentives, dividends, property tax planning, and entity simplification efforts. He/she shall track legislative changes, model their impact on Umicore’s key KPIs (i.e. cash and book taxes, and compliance), and proactively organize the company’s response and audit preparedness. He/she shall contribute to the preparation of the global tax dashboard.
- A pro-active stakeholder relationship with the business partners in Poland across all relevant Business Groups/Units. The incumbent shall be a key advocate of the tax team in the relationship with the Business Units/Groups in Poland. He/she shall regularly identify business needs generating tax opportunities or risks, make the business partners aware of the key tax requirements, and gain their support.
- She/he shall provide tax support to restructurings and M&A transactions in Poland in alignment with the Vice President Group Tax and the Tax Director EMEA.
- The coaching of all legal entity Finance leaders in Poland;
- The selection, in alignment with the Tax Director EMEA and ultimately the Vice President Group Tax, and management of external tax advisors in Poland;
- Compliance: Combination of coordination of compliance activities with the external tax advisors, as well as execution of internally handled compliance;
- The leadership, in collaboration with the global functional tax teams, over all tax audits in Poland for the Polish entities and Polish VAT registrations of non-Polish Umicore entities. Stewardship shall be provided in audits of non-corporate taxes belonging to the primary responsibility of other functional teams (e.g. wage taxes, energy taxes, excise and customs duties);
- The monitoring and review, in alignment with the Income Tax Reporting and Compliance team, of all material tax inputs given to the Group Auditor in the constituent audits of entities in Poland. Those audits shall be managed by the entity Finance leaders.
- The candidate shall establish a good balance between opportunities vs. risks, and between value creation vs. tax compliance and risk management. He/she maintains an eye on the “north star” of materiality and effectiveness, and establishes priorities (and regularly re-evaluates them) in strong alignment with Tax Director EMEA
Who we are looking for
- Master in Tax Law, Economics or Finance - University preferred;
- CPA / tax advisor exam / postgraduate degree in taxation preferred;
- 10 years+ tax management experience in an in-house role; additional Big-4 exposure a plus;
- Very good technical knowledge of the tax laws and accounting rules of Poland (especially CIT, withholding taxes, DAC6, transfer pricing, VAT, tax incentive schemes, real estate taxes);
- IAS 12 proficiency.
- Knowledge of financial/tax modelling; and
- SAP and Microsoft 365 skills; Longview user a plus.
