What you will be doing

(*Position Type: 2-year contract position)

As the Project Safety Engineer at UBM Korea, you will be pivotal in managing safety for new investment projects from planning and design to construction and commissioning. Collaborating with Umicore’s project teams and external partners, you will ensure all safety standards are rigorously applied. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Safety Management
    • Review and approve Safety Work Permits (SWP) and safety work plans.
    • Conduct regular safety patrols and control the "3 strike out" system, maintaining safety registers and statistics.
    • Audit contractor compliance with safety arrangements during project execution.
    • Analyze safety reports, present improvement proposals, and monitor the implementation of action plans.
  2. Collaboration and Training
    • Lead Pre-start Safety Reviews (PSSR), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and safety kickoff meetings.
    • Provide safety guidelines and training to project engineers, safety experts, and safety inspectors.
    • Facilitate communications between the engineering team and the UBMK Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team.
  3. Documentation and Compliance
    • Create and update safety documentation.
    • Attend and contribute to various safety meetings with contractors and inspectors.

 

Who we are looking for

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 10 years in EHS management within a project environment, preferably within the same or similar industry.
  3. Deep knowledge of applicable safety laws, regulations, standards, and best practices.
  4. Proficiency in using safety software tools and applications.
  5. Certification or eligibility for certification as a professional safety practitioner by a recognized body.
  6. Proven ability to build a safety culture and enhance safety capabilities among employees and contractors.
  7. Fluent in English with strong reporting and communication skills.
