What you will be doing
The MPTR controller is responsible for the financial management of Mass Production Trial Runs (MPTR) within the Umicore Battery Materials Business Unit. Trial Runs are an important step within the commercialization of new products and extensive testing, including external customer qualification is required before mass production can start. You will be the key business partner to the VP process technology and be responsible for the preparation of the yearly MPTR budget, follow up on variances vs budget and ensure costs linked to trial runs are kept well under control.  

 

Your detailed responsibilities :

  • Lead, develop & control the monthly closing process:
    • Coordinate and perform all monthly activities linked to MPTR reporting - accurately and timely
    • Prepare monthly MPTR reporting package showing MPTR volumes and corresponding revenues and costs
    • Provide clear guidelines, align & instruct the different teams (GFS, Local teams, ..) to ensure all MPTR’s are coded correctly
  • Budget & Cost analysis:
    • Take ownership of the forecasting and budgeting process of MPTR’s. Organize & deliver the yearly forecasting and budgeting cycles
    • Analyse & investigate variances vs budget. Take corrective action where needed.
    • Develop & improve forecasting exercise to ensure all MPTR’s are properly budgeted  
    • Set right governance and procedures to ensure all stakeholders receive clear instructions for cost tracking
    • Actively contribute to the Efficiency For Growth program and ensure savings declared via the BOOST program are tracked and can be demonstrated within  the P&L
    • Set-up a process to start tracking non-development MPTR’s as those are currently out of scope
  • Business Partnering
    • Act as business partner to VP Process Technology. Develop and organize regular performance reviews to track performance vs plan.
    • Proactively analyse results and suggest proposals for optimization
  • Develop MPTR governance process and develop a costing benchmark
    • Review current MPTR processes. Develop a clear, consistent and comprehensive MPTR framework by harmonizing all processes This framework should include clear definitions, guidelines and instructions
    • Improve current MPTR approval flow process by adding financial dimension
    • Develop a costing benchmark that can be used to assess the financial impact of a new product introduction or the commissioning of a new line
    • Improve MPTR volume planning process and integrate with SO&E planning process

You will report to the Director Opex & Capex Controlling in Brussels.

 

Who we are looking for

  • You have acquired a Master degree in Finance, Business Administration, Commercial Sciences or equivalent through proven experience
  • Preferable +4 years of professional experience within an international company in a matrix environment
  • Experience with cost controlling in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP-systems, including SAP
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proactive and critical mindset
  • Good communication skills
  • Eager to learn
  • Fluent in English
