We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new processes. Which is where you come.
What you will be doing
• Lead the development of advanced and innovative glass shaping processes for new applica-tions as well as for volume production.
• Overall 3D printing project management
• Design experimental protocols (carry out trials and/or tests, data analysis, results). Analyze the data from the tests and evaluate the results obtained.
• Prepare technical documentation and provide updates to the management
• Define specifications of future 3DP production equipment with engineering team. Identify challenges or needs, identify third party supplier and participate to selection.
• Work with production and quality team to ensure a transition from R&D to manufacturing
• Contribute to processes improvement related to the melting and shaping of GASIR glasses (op-timization of raw materials, performance control, increase in production yields,...).
• Bring expertise in glass shaping to this project and participate to experiments
• Bridge the gap between DP and casting technologies by proposing ideas and innovative solu-tions that could enhance the casting technology
• Comply with the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment rules applicable on the site and guar-antee compliance with them.
• Ensure that all development activities related to 3D printing or any new processes and prod-ucts developed fully comply with Umicore's safety and security rules (safety of people and op-erations) as well as environmental protection rules (eco-design, emission and waste reduction, recycling and product life cycle,...).
• Conduct risk assessments for new processes and equipment
• Collaborate with HSE team to implement best practices.
• Maintain a safe working environment in the R&D lab by adhering to safety procedures and us-ing personal.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a curious and organized colleague with:
• PhD in Material science, Physics or Chemistry
• Solid experience in non-oxide glasses manufacturing (preferably chalcogenides)
• Safety oriented : leading by example
• Experience in glass forming, moulding and shaping
• Innovative / out of the box thinking
• Perseverance
• Autonomous
• Solid English level
• Project management skills
• Organized, analytical mind, able to process and analyse a lot of data
• Ability to deliver structured written reports
• Intercultural and interpersonal skills
