We aim to be a clear world leader in materials for clean mobility and recycling and have turned our sustainability approach into an even greater competitive advantage. With ambitions like this, imagine what you could do?
What you will be doing:
The Engineer Analytical Technology in Manufacturing supports the continuous operations of existing laboratories and the qualification of new analytical laboratories within the business and the global industrialization of pCAM/CAM products by executing or coordinating the execution of small analytical projects or tasks while maintaining the high standard of analytical methods and striving for operational excellence in the analytical laboratories. The Engineer Analytical Technology in Manufacturing works on a project-basis, supports the project team with technical expertise, collaborates with various stakeholders and reports functionally to the project or regional manager.
Main responsibilies:
- Executes or coordinates the execution of small projects and tasks; within a cross-functional and global analytical team; in the field of Analytical Technology
- Identifies new opportunities related to Analytical Technology and shares those opportunities with the project or program manager to transform these opportunities into a well-defined analytical project
- Evaluates the implemented improvement through statistics and cost assessment; and provides post-project support to the analytical laboratory
- Collaborates with analytical teams to ensure the global standardization of equipment and methods
- Builds and applies technical expertise in the field of physicochemical analysis, battery characterization and materials characterization; of the relevant materials intermediates, and the production processes, sampling methodologies, automation and digitalization and lean six sigma methodologies.
- Ensures Excellence in Execution (ExE) according to Umicore’s OE framework (Employees, Quality, EHS, Customer, Productivity, Resources)
The Engineer will work in one of the following domains:
- Analytical Innovation:
- Improving analytical processes through lean six sigma methodologies (5s, Waste removal, Value Stream Mapping, Yamazumi charting, Kaizen events and/or DMAIC processes)
- Developing and optimizing sampling processes (including automation and robotization)
- Developing and implementing automation/digital solutions for/in the analytical laboratories
- Developing and implementing in-line/at-line analysis at the production area
- Method Development and Industrialization:
- Defining the analytical methodology for new pCAM/CAM products (including raw materials, additives, intermediates, process samples, the final product, and environmental samples)
- Developing new analytical methods or improving existing analytical methods (including selecting the appropriate analytical technology/equipment).
- Documenting and maintaining the analytical methodology (LIMS master data, SOP’s, technical documentation, calculation sheets and training documentation)
- Globally industrializing the analytical methodology to the relevant analytical laboratories
- Managing the global alignment status by means cross-check or alignment exercises
- Site Implementation and Technical Support:
- Implementation of analytical solutions in operations (analytical laboratory or production): analytical methods, analytical equipment, automation/digital solutions, sampling processes and/or in-line/at-line analysis
- Development and implementation of site-specific analytical methods related to e.g. site-specific production processes, waste water, emissions, bio monitoring or local legislation
- Technical support to the site (AL, PT, QM, Production, Procurement, Logistics and EHS): root-cause analysis, customer complaint, analytical non-conformity, analytical data assessment, general troubleshooting, and expert advice
Who are we looking for:
- Master degree in Chemistry, Physics, Geology, or related field; or equivalent through experience
- Solid understanding of analytical technologies/equipment commonly used in analytical laboratories (e.g. PSD, ICP, XRF, BET, XRD, SEM, KF, Titration, Density analysis)
- Familiar with norms such as ISO9001, ISO17025 and IATF16949
- Familiar with quality tools such as MSA, SPC, FMEA,
- Experience with lean six sigma methodologies and, preferably, with lean six sigma qualification (Green Belt)
