Umicore announces CEO succession
Umicore announces the appointment of Bart Sap as Chief Executive Officer, effective May 16th. He will succeed Mathias Miedreich who has decided to step down, in mutual agreement with the Supervisory Board.
Bart Sap joined Umicore in 2004 and has been the Executive Vice President Catalysis since March 2021. His nomination is in line with the company's established succession plan. Mathias Miedreich will remain available for advice to Umicore during the next several months.
In light of slower demand growth for EV battery materials affecting the entire industry, one of Bart Sap's main priorities will be to assess the development plans for the Umicore Battery Materials business, including capex. The first outcomes of this review will be shared during the half-year results announcement on July 26th, 2024.

Bart Sap was appointed Executive Vice-President Catalysis on March 1, 2021. He joined Umicore in 2004 as controller for Cobalt & Specialty Materials and, after successive assignments in Korea and Belgium covering finance, supply and refining of battery raw materials, business development and operations, he became Senior Vice-President for Cobalt & Specialty Materials and Supply at the beginning of 2020. Bart holds a Master’s Degree in Commercial Science from Vlekho in Brussels, Belgium, with majors in Accountancy and Taxation.

Umicore annonce la nomination de Bart Sap au poste de CEO, avec effet au 16 mai. Il succèdera à Mathias Miedreich qui a décidé de se retirer, d'un commun accord avec le conseil de surveillance.
Bart Sap a rejoint Umicore en 2004 et occupe le poste d'Executive Vice President Catalysis depuis mars 2021. Sa nomination s'inscrit dans le cadre du plan de succession établi par l'entreprise. Mathias Miedreich restera à la disposition d'Umicore pour la conseiller au cours des prochains mois.
Compte tenu du ralentissement de la croissance de la demande de matériaux pour batteries de véhicules électriques, qui affecte l'ensemble de l'industrie, l'une des principales priorités de Bart Sap sera d'évaluer les plans de développement de l'activité Umicore Battery Materials, en ce compris les dépenses d'investissement. Les premiers résultats de cette évaluation seront communiqués lors de l'annonce des résultats semestriels le 26 juillet 2024.

Il a ajouté : « Mathias a été un dirigeant énergique et déterminé à assurer le développement et la croissance d'Umicore. Il a dirigé Umicore dans une période difficile, marquée par la pandémie et par une grande volatilité géopolitique et macroéconomique. Grâce à sa connaissance approfondie de l'industrie, il a apporté à Umicore de nombreuses idées précieuses. Au nom du conseil de surveillance, je tiens à remercier Mathias pour sa contribution à Umicore et je lui souhaite beaucoup de succès à l'avenir ».
Bart Sap a été nommé Executive Vice-President Catalysis le 1er mars 2021. Il a rejoint Umicore en 2004 en tant que contrôleur pour Cobalt & Specialty Materials et, après des missions successives en Corée et en Belgique couvrant les finances, l'approvisionnement et le raffinage des matières premières pour batteries, le business development et les opérations, il est devenu Senior Vice-President pour Cobalt & Specialty Materials and Supply au début de 2020. Bart est titulaire d'un master en sciences commerciales de Vlekho à Bruxelles, en Belgique, avec des spécialisations en comptabilité et en fiscalité.

Umicore kondigt de benoeming aan van Bart Sap als Chief Executive Officer, met ingang van 16 mei. Hij volgt Mathias Miedreich op, die in overleg met de raad van toezicht heeft besloten terug te treden.
Bart Sap trad in 2004 in dienst bij Umicore en is sinds maart 2021 Executive Vice President Catalysis. Zijn benoeming is in lijn met het door het bedrijf opgestelde opvolgingsplan. Mathias Miedreich blijft de volgende maanden beschikbaar voor advies aan Umicore.
Eén van de belangrijkste prioriteiten van Bart Sap is de evaluatie van de ontwikkelingsplannen voor de Battery Materials activiteit van Umicore, waaronder de investeringen, gezien de tragere groei van de vraag naar batterijmaterialen voor elektrische voertuigen die de hele sector treft. Bart Sap verwacht de eerste resultaten van deze evaluatie mee te delen tijdens de bekendmaking van de halfjaarresultaten op 26 juli 2024.

Hij voegde eraan toe: “Mathias is een krachtige en energieke leider en was toegewijd aan de ontwikkeling en groei van Umicore. Met zijn grondige kennis van de sector heeft hij Umicore veel waardevolle inzichten bijgebracht. Ik wil Mathias namens de raad van toezicht bedanken voor zijn bijdrage aan Umicore en wens hem veel succes in de toekomst.”
Bart Sap werd op 1 maart 2021 benoemd tot Executive Vice-President Catalysis. Hij vervoegde Umicore in 2004 als controller voor Cobalt & Specialty Materials en, na opeenvolgende functies in Korea en België in financiën, bevoorrading en raffinage van batterijgrondstoffen, business development en operations, werd hij begin 2020 Senior Vice-President voor Cobalt & Specialty Materials and Supply. Bart behaalde een Master in Handelswetenschappen aan Vlekho in Brussel, België, met als afstudeerrichtingen Accountancy en Fiscaliteit.
