About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer, reporting to the Automation & Electrical  Engineering Manager. In this role you will bring a high degree of specialized knowledge and experience to the organization supporting the project, in developing and managing technical standards and recommendations in support of the construction and installation of facilities in their field of specialization and to liaise with contractors to successfully implement new assets and facilities until commissioning and/or handover, in line with the expectations of the stakeholders

 

Responsibilities

  • Electrical System Design: Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and control systems, for Capex project
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers to define project scopes, budgets, and timelines, and develop electrical engineering plans to meet project goals.
  • Vendor Selection: Evaluate and select electrical equipment and components suppliers, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance to project teams, addressing electrical engineering challenges and ensuring project success.
  • Compliance and Codes: Ensure that all electrical designs and installations adhere to relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Budget Management: Manage project budgets related to electrical engineering aspects, including cost estimation, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential electrical hazards and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of electrical systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure the proper installation and functionality of electrical systems.

 

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license is an asset
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a proven track record in Projects
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and electrical simulation tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
  • Project management skills, including budget management and resource allocation.
